In recognition of how closely the life and work of Jeffrey W. Harris aligned with our mission, Rising Sons has partnered with the Jeffrey W. Harris Foundation to help fund the education of aspiring youth. This scholarship is awarded to one college-bound student annually.
Applicants must be enrolled full-time at an accredited college or trade/professional school in the upcoming school year and possess a minimum of a 3.0 GPA (or its equivalent), either cumulatively or for the last completed semester.
The Rising Sons' mission targets young males, but this scholarship is awarded without regard to race, religion, age, gender or sex. The criterion used to select scholarship recipients includes academic performance, character, and proficiency — or potential proficiency — in the chosen field of study. Applicants that have an interest in business, and especially entrepreneurism, have preferred status, but field of study will only influence selection if applications are otherwise fairly equally qualified.
The award is a scholarship grant in the amount of $500 U.S. dollars. This grant should not be mistaken in any way for a student loan. Although a high school student may apply for consideration for a grant prior to being accepted at a college or trade/professional school, he/she must provide documentation in the form of an admissions acceptance letter to the committee before the grant will be finalized.
